Emerging Leaders Program

Periodically, the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce selects a diverse and talented cohort of Wisconsin’s LGBTQ+ college students to participate in our Emerging Leaders Program. This program is an effort to help develop and prepare the next generation of LGBTQ+ professionals and business owners.

The goal of the Emerging Leaders Program is to support LGBTQ+ college students (both graduate and undergraduate) in their personal and professional development by matching them with professional mentors belonging to the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber. The Emerging Leaders Program helps students gain knowledge of various careers and helps prepare LGBTQ+ students for being an out professional in the workplace and the next generation of leaders.

Mentors and Mentees are expected to:

  • Meet in a regular basis over the program’s course
  • Develop mentorship goals for the duration of the program
  • Participate in different opportunities such as job shadows, resume review, and mock interviews

Mentees will be paired with mentors based on information provided during the application, such as areas of interest, future career interest, and professional goals.

Our first meeting will be an orientation for mentors and mentees to discuss program structure and expectations. The Chamber will provide optional monthly meetings and resources to guide recommended monthly mentor-mentee meetings, but each pairing is encouraged to determine a meeting schedule that works best for them. The Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce will provide periodic check-ins with mentors and mentees to ensure connectivity and program satisfaction. All mentors and mentees will complete a mentorship plan including goals and meeting agreements.
