Advocacy has been a part of Jason Rae’s career from the outset, starting with his work as a Marquette University student and as a political intern with the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund and continuing on as executive director for the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce.
He serves as the chair of the board of directors at Fair Wisconsin, the state's only statewide LGBT advocacy organization. Jason also serves as chair of the Milwaukee County Human Rights Commission, which is focused on human rights and advocacy efforts for all residents throughout the county
Jason is also actively involved in the Democratic National Committee, and at 17, was the youngest ever person ever elected to the DNC. Since then, he’s served in a number of capacities, including secretary and acting chair for the DNC’s LGBT Caucus.
Throughout his ongoing volunteer work, Jason has continued to sense a need for more focused LGBT advocacy in the business community, both on an individual level and for organizations. In 2011, he founded Young LGBT Professionals of Milwaukee. This group’s original focus has been to aid individuals in the LGBT community through networking, education and advocacy efforts.
Based in part on the early success and interest in this group, in 2012, Jason established the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce. Open to individual members as well as LGBT-owned and allied businesses/organizations, the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce broadly expands on the original focus of the Young LGBT Professionals of Milwaukee to include more extensive advocacy and promotion of the Wisconsin LGBT business community.
He also has significant experience through his work at a Milwaukee-based public affairs consulting firm, which focuses on government relations, political organizing and non-profit management.
Jason is a native of Rice Lake, Wisconsin and now lives on the eastside of Milwaukee.
