MILWAUKEE — In partnership with Time Warner Cable, the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce is pleased to be announcing the launch of it’s newest initiative – the LGBT Gives Back campaign.
“Over the last few months, we’ve been asked repeatedly by small business owners and corporate professionals about what volunteer opportunities exist with area non-profit organizations,” said Jason Rae, executive director of the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber. “With a growing number of non-profits as members of the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber, we wanted to provide an event that will focus and highlight them specifically and provide community members with volunteer opportunities.”
The “LGBT Give Back” campaign will kick off formally on Wednesday, February 24 at the Hampton Inn & Suites Milwaukee West with an evening happy hour. Non-profits members of the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber will be present to talk about their organization and what volunteer opportunities exist. Those attending will be asked to pledge some of their time over a six week period with a non-profit and to share their experiences on social media with the hashtag #LGBTGivesBack. In addition, the LGBT Chamber will launch a permanent Volunteer Board on their website as a part of the campaign.
The kick off event on February 24 is being presented by one of the LGBT Chamber’s corporate partners, Time Warner Cable.
“Time Warner Cable is proud to partner with the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber to help launch this campaign focused on community service and volunteerism,” said Jack Herbert, Regional Vice President, Operations, Midwest for Time Warner Cable. “We want not only our team members, but employees from all over Wisconsin, to pledge their time to supporting one of the great non-profit members of the Chamber and showing that business leaders are committed to giving back.”
Current non-profit members of the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber signed up to be present at the event include 88Nine Radio Milwaukee, ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis, Bay View United Methodist Church, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, Hunger Task Force, Milwaukee Jewish Federation, Milwaukee Pride and more. The kick off event is open to the public and free to attend. Individuals are asked to register at www.wislgbtchamber.com/volunteer.
“We are grateful for Time Warner Cable's commitment to the LGBT community in Wisconsin and to supporting great non-profit organizations. We know that this will be a rewarding partnership for all,” said Rae.
